This week's discussion was focused on change. We were lucky enough to have Dr. Chuck Spuches as a guest speaker. We discussed the two types of change: planned and unplanned. He helped us to think about change occurring in our lives and how we are affected by it. What is gained by the change and what is lost? Change can be taking an existing situation and turning it into a preferred situation. Chuck shared Prochaska's model of the five stages of change.
- Stage 1: Precontenplation- The person begins to discover a problems exists and starts to think of how solve the issue. This person may still be in denial.
- Stage 2: Contemplation- The individual knows that there is a problem and trying to decide if he or she should take action.
- Stage 3: Preparation- The person begins to prepare to take action in the future.
- Stage 4: Action- The individual changes a behavior to overcome the problem.
- Stage 5: Maintenance- The person continues with the changed behaviors to overcome the problem.

In regards to the model I am creating, change is going to be a necessary component. Each DOD contractor is required to give an annual security briefing, however the way in which the content is delivered is different depending on the facility. It is crucial that the stakeholders feel they have a voice in the design of the delivery of the content. Involving the Opinion Leader will help in participants agreeing with the design.
